My IP has been marked as spammer but that was not me!

Solution

Why is this happening?

From time to time, forum users receive a message stating their IP address has been blocked for spamming, even if they have done nothing wrong.

This happens because our system automatically checks major, global spam databases to protect the community. Many internet service providers (particularly mobile home internet like T-Mobile, or cellular data networks) use a technology called Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT). This means hundreds of households in your area might share the exact same public IP address. If just one person on that shared network triggers a spam database, the entire IP gets blacklisted, affecting innocent users like you.

To see exactly which database your current IP is listed on, you can use the DNSBL Database Check.

How to fix it:

If you are blocked, try these steps in order:

  1. Power Cycle your Router/Gateway (Fastest Fix): If you use mobile home internet (like T-Mobile) or a standard ISP, unplug your internet router or gateway from the power outlet, wait about 30 seconds, and plug it back in. This usually forces your provider to assign you a brand-new IP address, bypassing the block immediately.

  2. Use a VPN or Proxy Extension: You can bypass the local IP restriction by using a secure browser extension to route your traffic. For example, some users utilize the anonymoX extension for Chrome.

  3. Request Delisting: You can visit the specific blacklist database site found via the DNSBL check above and manually request that they remove your IP address. (Note: They may ask you for some basic network details to process this).

  4. Contact Your ISP: If your IP is static or power cycling doesn't change it, you can contact your Internet Service Provider and request that they assign you a clean IP address.

Still stuck? If none of these options work for you, please open a Helpdesk ticket with us directly so we can look into whitelisting your account manually.
